Patience is the Key to Success
Time is Never a Factor...

In the pictures below, Greg is working with a 5 year old Appaloosa gelding who had the habit of running off with his rider and would not stand to be saddled or mounted.

Greg stresses the fact that when training any horse, whether young or older with specific problems, time should never be a factor. In every case it is the horse that decides when it feels comfortable with a certain lesson and is ready to move on to the next step:

Horses love to be loved. This horse is so interested and focused in what Greg is doing that he hasn't moved at all.

Greg mounts from the off or right side and the horse remains motionless.

Greg rewards the horse by patting him; this lets the horse know that he has behaved well.

Gentle physical contact is a form of reward; this horse enjoys having his ears rubbed.

Off they go! The horse who used to run away didn't move until Greg asked him to and now, he can even be ridden without a bridle.

IF YOU HAVE THE HORSE'S MIND, YOU HAVE HIS BODY.
