Ancient Training Techniques
The Art of Horsemanship...

The horse training techniques used today that people define as More-Humane, or the new way of training, are really ancient and stem back to Xenophon, a rich Athenian who lived from 427 - 354 BC and died at the age of about 73.

Xenophon is known as the father of classical equitation, and his writings include the art of horsemanship. He believed as translated:

"Compulsion and blows inspire only the more fear and when horses are at all hurt at such times they think that what they shied at is the cause of the hurt."

He has also stated 3 rules which we use today in his writings, translated again:

1. That a man should in no way put himself in a situation where he will get injured.

2. The horse shall in no way be injured through mans anger... or any other way.

3. The horse must be put in a position where he feels good and rewarded after the training.
